Brand New Islamic Clothes for Revert Brothers and Sisters
Project Title: New Beginnings – Islamic Clothing for Reverts
Objective:
To provide newly reverted Muslim brothers and sisters with a starter pack of modest Islamic clothing, helping them feel welcomed, dignified, and confident in practicing their new faith.
Rationale:
- Many reverts come to Islam without financial means to purchase Islamic attire.
- A simple gift of clothing can symbolize community support and love.
- Clothing helps them fulfill religious obligations (hijab, modesty) immediately after embracing Islam.
Activities:
- Prepare Welcome Packs for reverts:
- For Brothers: Thobe, kufi (cap), prayer mat, small Qur’an.
- For Sisters: Abaya, hijab set, prayer mat, small Qur’an.
- Organize donations from local Muslim businesses, tailors, and community members.
- Purchase new items where donations are insufficient.
- Distribute through mosques, daʿwah centers, and revert support groups.
- Include a welcoming letter from Alhera Daʿwah, ensuring emotional and spiritual support.
Expected Impact:
- Reverts feel included and supported by the Muslim community.
- Boosts confidence in public practice of Islam.
- Encourages retention and growth of faith.
Budget Estimate:
- $80–100 per revert clothing pack.
- Target: 50–100 reverts annually across New Zealand.
Sustainability:
- Partner with Islamic clothing stores for sponsorship.
- Create a zakat/ sadaqah fund dedicated to revert support.
- Encourage community to sponsor a “Revert Welcome Pack” per person.
