Surah Fatiha

بارك الله فيك 🌿 — this is a beautiful way to learn Arabic directly from the Qur’an. Surah Al-Fātiḥah is the best starting point since it combines grammar, vocabulary, and Qur’anic eloquence.

Word 1: اِسْم (Name)
  • Qur’an: بِاسْمِ اللَّهِIn the name of Allah
  • Practice:
  1. مَا اسْمُكَ؟ (What is your name?)
  2. اِسْمِي أَحْمَد. (My name is Ahmad.)
  3. هَذَا اِسْمُ الكِتَابِ. (This is the name of the book.)
Word 2: اللَّه (Allah)
  • Qur’an: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِAll praise is for Allah
  • Practice:
  1. اللَّهُ رَبِّي. (Allah is my Lord.)
  2. نَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ فِي المَسْجِدِ. (We worship Allah in the mosque.)
  3. اللَّهُ كَرِيمٌ. (Allah is Generous.)
Word 3: الرَّحْمٰن (The Most Merciful)
  • Qur’an: الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
  • Practice:
  1. الرَّحْمٰنُ يُحِبُّ عِبَادَهُ. (The Most Merciful loves His servants.)
  2. الرَّحْمٰنُ وَاسِعُ الرَّحْمَةِ. (The Most Merciful is vast in mercy.)
  3. نَدْعُو الرَّحْمٰنَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ. (We call upon the Most Merciful in prayer.)

👤 أَحْمَد: مَا اسْمُكَ؟
(What is your name?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: اِسْمِي مُحَمَّد، الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ.
(My name is Muhammad, all praise is for Allah.)

👤 أَحْمَد: وَمَا اسْمُ صَدِيقِكَ؟
(And what is your friend’s name?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: اسْمُهُ عَلِيّ.
(His name is Ali.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: اللَّهُ رَبِّي.
(Allah is my Lord.)

👤 أَحْمَد: نَعَمْ، اللَّهُ رَحْمٰنٌ.
(Yes, Allah is Most Merciful.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: الرَّحْمٰنُ يَرْحَمُ جَمِيعَ النَّاسِ.
(The Most Merciful shows mercy to all people.)

Word 4: الحَمْد (Praise)
  • Qur’an: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ
  • Practice:
  1. الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثِيرًا. (All praise is for Allah in abundance.)
  2. أَقُولُ الحَمْدُ بَعْدَ الطَّعَامِ. (I say al-ḥamd after food.)
  3. كُلُّ الحَمْدِ لِلَّهِ. (All praise belongs to Allah.)
Word 5: رَبّ (Lord)
  • Qur’an: رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ
  • Practice:
  1. رَبِّي كَرِيمٌ. (My Lord is Generous.)
  2. رَبُّنَا غَفُورٌ. (Our Lord is Forgiving.)
  3. رَبُّ البَيْتِ مُسَافِرٌ. (The master of the house is traveling.)
Word 6: العَالَمِينَ (Worlds, all creation)
  • Qur’an: رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ
  • Practice:
  1. اللَّهُ خَالِقُ العَالَمِينَ. (Allah is the Creator of the worlds.)
  2. رَبُّ العَالَمِينَ حَكِيمٌ. (The Lord of the worlds is Wise.)
  3. العَالَمِينَ كَثِيرُونَ. (The worlds are many.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى النِّعْمَةِ.
(All praise is for Allah for the blessing.)

👤 أَحْمَد: مَنْ رَبُّكَ؟
(Who is your Lord?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: رَبِّي رَبُّ العَالَمِينَ.
(My Lord is the Lord of the worlds.)

👤 أَحْمَد: الحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فِي كُلِّ حَالٍ.
(All praise is for Allah in every situation.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: نَعَمْ، رَبُّنَا غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ.
(Yes, our Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.)

Word 7: مَالِك (Owner / Master)
  • Qur’an: مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
  • Practice:
  1. أَنْتَ مَالِكُ البَيْتِ. (You are the owner of the house.)
  2. اللَّهُ مَالِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ. (Allah is the Owner of the heavens and the earth.)
  3. المَالِكُ كَرِيمٌ مَعَ الفُقَرَاءِ. (The owner is generous with the poor.)
Word 8: يَوْم (Day)
  • Qur’an: يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Word 9: الدِّين (Religion / Reckoning)

  1. الإِسْلَامُ دِينُ الحَقِّ. (Islam is the true religion.)
  2. لِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ دِينٌ. (Every nation has a religion.)
  3. يَوْمُ الدِّينِ يَوْمُ الحِسَابِ. (The Day of Judgment is the Day of Reckoning.)

Word 11: نَعْبُد (We worship)
  • Qur’an: نَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ

  1. نَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ فِي المَسْجِدِ. (We worship Allah in the mosque.)
  2. نَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ. (We worship Allah every day.)
  3. نَعْبُدُ رَبَّ العَالَمِينَ. (We worship the Lord of the worlds.)
Word 12: نَسْتَعِين (We seek help)
  • Qur’an: وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
  • Practice:
  1. نَسْتَعِينُ بِاللَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ أَمْرٍ. (We seek Allah’s help in every matter.)
  2. نَسْتَعِينُ بِالعِلْمِ. (We seek help through knowledge.)
  3. نَسْتَعِينُ بِالصَّبْرِ. (We seek help through patience.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ.
(You alone we worship.)

👤 أَحْمَد: بِمَنْ نَسْتَعِينُ فِي الشِّدَّةِ؟
(Whom do we seek help from in hardship?)

Word 13: اهْدِنَا (Guide us)
  • Qur’an: اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ المُسْتَقِيمَ

  1. اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنَا إِلَى الخَيْرِ. (O Allah, guide us to goodness.)
  2. اهْدِنَا فِي الحَيَاةِ. (Guide us in life.)
  3. اهْدِنَا لِلصَّوَابِ. (Guide us to what is correct.)
Word 14: الصِّرَاط (The Path)
  • Qur’an: الصِّرَاطَ المُسْتَقِيمَ
  • Practice:
  1. الصِّرَاطُ وَاضِحٌ. (The path is clear.)
  2. نَسِيرُ فِي الصِّرَاطِ. (We walk on the path.)
  3. هَذَا هُوَ الصِّرَاطُ الحَقُّ. (This is the true path.)
Word 15: المُسْتَقِيم (Straight)
  • Qur’an: الصِّرَاطَ المُسْتَقِيمَ
  • Practice:
  1. نَسِيرُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ المُسْتَقِيمِ. (We walk on the straight road.)
  2. الخَيْرُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ المُسْتَقِيمِ. (Goodness is in the straight path.)
  3. نُرِيدُ الحَيَاةَ المُسْتَقِيمَةَ. (We want a straight life.)

👤 أَحْمَد: اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنَا.
(O Allah, guide us.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: إِلَى الصِّرَاطِ المُسْتَقِيمِ.
(To the straight path.)

👤 أَحْمَد: أَيُّ طَرِيقٍ نَسْلُكُ؟
(Which path should we take?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: نَسْلُكُ الصِّرَاطَ المُسْتَقِيمَ.
(We take the straight path.)

Word 16: الَّذِينَ (Those who)
  • Qur’an: صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ
  • Practice:
  1. أُحِبُّ الَّذِينَ يَصْدُقُونَ. (I love those who tell the truth.)
  2. الَّذِينَ يَكْذِبُونَ مَكْرُوهُونَ. (Those who lie are disliked.)
  3. الَّذِينَ يُصَلُّونَ مَحْبُوبُونَ. (Those who pray are beloved.)
Word 17: أَنْعَمْتَ (You bestowed blessings)
  • Qur’an: أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ
  • Practice:
  1. أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالنِّعْمَةِ. (Allah bestowed blessings upon us.)
  2. أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى العَالِمِ بِالعِلْمِ. (Allah blessed the scholar with knowledge.)
  3. أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ بِالصِّحَّةِ. (You bestowed on me health.)
Word 18: غَيْر (Other than)
  • Qur’an: غَيْرِ المَغْضُوبِ
  • Practice:
  1. أُرِيدُ كِتَابًا غَيْرَ هَذَا. (I want a book other than this.)
  2. ذَهَبْتُ إِلَى مَكَانٍ غَيْرِ المَسْجِدِ. (I went to a place other than the mosque.)
  3. غَيْرُ الحَقِّ بَاطِلٌ. (Other than truth is falsehood.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: أُحِبُّ الَّذِينَ يَصْدُقُونَ.
(I love those who tell the truth.)

👤 أَحْمَد: وَاللَّهُ أَنْعَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ.
(And Allah blessed them.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: غَيْرَ الكَاذِبِينَ.
(Not the liars.)

👤 أَحْمَد: مَنْ هُمُ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ؟
(Who are those Allah blessed?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: هُمُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ.
(They are those who believed and did righteous deeds.)

Word 19: المَغْضُوب (Those who earned anger)
  • Qur’an: غَيْرِ المَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ
  • Practice:
  1. لَا أُرِيدُ طَرِيقَ المَغْضُوبِ. (I do not want the path of those who earned anger.)
  2. المَغْضُوبُ مَحْرُومٌ مِنَ الخَيْرِ. (The one who earned anger is deprived of good.)
  3. نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ أَنْ لَا نَكُونَ مِنَ المَغْضُوبِينَ. (We ask Allah not to be among the angry ones.)
Word 20: وَلَا (And not)
  • Qur’an: وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
  • Practice:
  1. أُحِبُّ الحَقَّ وَلَا أُحِبُّ البَاطِلَ. (I love truth and not falsehood.)
  2. أَذْهَبُ إِلَى المَسْجِدِ وَلَا أَذْهَبُ إِلَى السُّوقِ. (I go to the mosque and not to the market.)
  3. نُرِيدُ الخَيْرَ وَلَا نُرِيدُ الشَّرَّ. (We want good and not evil.)
Word 21: الضَّالِّين (Those who went astray)
  • Qur’an: وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
  • Practice:
  1. نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ أَنْ لَا نَكُونَ مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ. (We ask Allah not to be among the misguided.)
  2. الضَّالُّ يَسِيرُ فِي طَرِيقٍ خَاطِئٍ. (The misguided one walks on the wrong path.)
  3. المُهْتَدُونَ فِي النُّورِ وَالضَّالُّونَ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ. (The guided are in light and the misguided are in darkness.)

👤 أَحْمَد: نَسْلُكُ طَرِيقَ المُهْتَدِينَ.
(We follow the path of the guided ones.)

👤 مُحَمَّد: نَعَمْ، غَيْرَ المَغْضُوبِ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ.
(Yes, not the path of those who earned anger, nor of those who went astray.)

👤 أَحْمَد: مَنْ هُمُ الضَّالُّونَ؟
(Who are the misguided ones?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: هُمُ الَّذِينَ تَرَكُوا الحَقَّ.
(They are those who abandoned the truth.)

👤 أَحْمَد: وَالمُهْتَدُونَ؟
(And the guided ones?)

👤 مُحَمَّد: هُمُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوا الصِّرَاطَ المُسْتَقِيمَ.
(They are those who followed the straight path.)
